Workplace Health & Safety Officer
Program Purpose
This course is the first part of a three stage program designed to take trainees from a basic understanding of the principles and practices of Workplace Health and Safety officer courses through to a professional level of competency.
Teaching and Learning Strategies
Sessions are delivered in structured training presentations by a facilitator, including activities, exercises and assessment.
Program Content
Topics will include:
- PNG Safety/Health/Welfare legislation
- Workplace health and safety principles and practices; incident investigation procedures and risk management
- Health and hygiene issues
- The roles and responsibilities of safety officers and committees
Learning Outcomes
Upon completing the course, the trainees will have gained knowledge of:

Who Should Attend
- Level I should be attended by people intending to or currently practicing, supervising or managing in the field of Workplace Health and Safety.
- Level I is a pre-requisite of Level II and must be attended for the trainee to be eligible for the Sefti PNG Workplace Health and Safety Officers Certificate.
Certificate Award
Participants who successfully complete this course will receive a Safety Officer Level 1 Certificate making them eligible to attend the Safety Officer Level II Training Course.
